Novamira appoints Carlo Piana as Project Chairman

Novamira welcomes one of Europe’s most respected open source figures as Project Chairman, reinforcing the project’s values as it grows at the intersection of WordPress and AI.
Venice (Italy), June 3, 2026 – Novamira, the Open Source WordPress plugin that gives AI agents full access to a WordPress site, has announced the appointment of Carlo Piana as Project Chairman, on the occasion of its participation in WordCamp Europe in Kraków.
Piana’s arrival marks a defining moment for Novamira. It reflects the direction the project is taking: solid, community-driven development aimed at building a reliable and transparent ecosystem for WordPress and AI, at a moment when the two are converging fast.
As Project Chairman, Piana will act as an independent guardian of Novamira’s Open Source values, as well as being a public voice for the project, while providing guidance to the project as it grows.
Carlo Piana is a Milan-based attorney with nearly thirty years of experience in IT and a long history at the center of the free and open source software community. He served as General Counsel of the Free Software Foundation Europe for over a decade, and represented FSFE and the Samba Team in the antitrust cases against Microsoft before the European Court of Justice and the Commission. He is a board member and past Chair of the Open Source Initiative and a founding partner of Array. He authored the book Open Source, Software libero e altre libertà (Open Source, Free Software and Other Freedoms; Ledizioni, 2018) and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Open Law, Technology and Society.
