Novamira Read Mode: let your AI look around

October 14, 2026 · by the Novamira team

Novamira Pro 1.12.0 is out, and it adds Read Mode: turn it on and an AI agent connected through Novamira can inspect your site without Novamira’s write abilities. It is made for production sites, where an agent should only look.

Some sessions are about understanding, not building. An audit, a report, a question about how the site is put together. Turn Read Mode on and Novamira offers the agent read abilities only: files and site details, posts, terms, users, comments, options and transients, the database schema, and SQL queries that run inside a read-only transaction and are always rolled back. Everything that changes content, files or settings is not offered, and refused if something calls it anyway. The check runs at every door of Novamira: the MCP connection, the WordPress Abilities API and Novamira Chat.

You decide what is offered. The reads that Novamira Pro and its specializations bring are on by default, the read abilities other plugins declare are off by default, and single abilities can be switched in the Abilities Hub. Turning Read Mode off never requires Novamira Pro or a license.

Read Mode is not a security feature: it limits what Novamira offers an agent, not what an administrator can do. The agent still connects with an administrator’s credentials and can read everything an administrator can read. A read ability may also change some of the site’s temporary data as part of reading, for example by clearing an expired transient or rebuilding a cache, and other plugins can react to a read through their own hooks. The new Read Mode page spells out exactly what it covers and what it does not.

Read Mode requires Novamira Pro 1.12.0 and Novamira 1.12.9 or newer: Novamira Pro is available from the Novamira Pro page, and Novamira from the download page. The Read Mode documentation has the full picture.
