Ghost Mode
Ghost Mode lets you run Novamira on client sites without it showing up for the client’s administrators. You choose which administrators keep seeing Novamira, and for everyone else its interface is hidden from the WordPress dashboard. Your agency keeps working with Novamira and its AI as usual.
Ghost Mode is part of Novamira Pro. It requires Novamira 1.12.6 and Novamira Pro 1.11.0 or newer, both active, and an active Novamira Pro license to turn it on or change who sees Novamira.
What other administrators no longer see
For administrators who are not on the list, Ghost Mode hides the Novamira menu and its submenus, the Novamira entry in the admin bar (in the dashboard and on the front end of the site), Novamira notices, the Novamira and Novamira Pro rows in the Plugins screen (including when searching for them), and Novamira updates in the Updates screen and in the update count. Novamira pages opened directly by their address are not available to them.
Administrators on the list see everything as before.
Ghost Mode is not a security feature
Ghost Mode changes what other administrators see, not what they can do. They can still find Novamira if they look for it, for example in the plugin list of your hosting panel, connect an AI to it, or keep the connection they already have. If you need to limit what an administrator can do on a site, use WordPress roles and capabilities, not Ghost Mode.
AI connections
Everything you built with Novamira stays on the site, and AI connections keep working as they did. The Ghost Mode page lists the other administrators who already have an AI connected, so you can review them. Application Passwords can be managed from each user’s profile; an OAuth connection is revoked by its owner from their Connections page.
Novamira Visual is available only to administrators on the list, so an AI agent that uses it has to work with an account on the list.
Turning Ghost Mode on
Go to Novamira, then Ghost Mode. Under Visible to, choose the administrators who should keep seeing Novamira. You are always on the list and cannot remove yourself, so you cannot lock yourself out by mistake. On multisite, the list is made of super admins and Ghost Mode applies to the whole network.
Before turning it on, the page shows a short list of points about what Ghost Mode does and does not do. Tick I understand, then click Turn on Ghost Mode. If only one administrator is on the list, the page suggests adding another, so access to Novamira does not depend on a single account.
Changing the list
With Ghost Mode on, the same page shows its status and the Visible to list. Add or remove administrators and click Save changes. The page also reports entries in the list that no longer belong to an administrator who can manage Novamira, for example a deleted user, and ignores them.
Updates
Administrators who are not on the list do not see Novamira updates, so they will not apply them. Keeping Novamira and Novamira Pro up to date is up to the administrators on the list. When an update is waiting, they see a notice on the Dashboard, Plugins and Updates screens.
Turning Ghost Mode off
Go to Novamira, then Ghost Mode, tick the confirmation and click Turn off Ghost Mode. Every administrator sees Novamira again.
WP-CLI
Ghost Mode can also be managed from the command line, which is useful when you work on many sites or when an AI agent does the work for you.
wp novamira ghost-mode status
wp novamira ghost-mode enable --visible-to=<users>
wp novamira ghost-mode owners add <user>
wp novamira ghost-mode owners remove <user>
wp novamira ghost-mode disable
status shows whether Ghost Mode is on and who is on the list. enable turns Ghost Mode on for the administrators given in --visible-to (user IDs, logins or emails, separated by commas), or changes the list when Ghost Mode is already on; it shows the same points as the page and asks for confirmation. owners add and owners remove add or remove one administrator without turning Ghost Mode on or off; the list can never be left empty while Ghost Mode is on. disable turns Ghost Mode off after a confirmation. Add --yes to enable or disable to skip the confirmation.
enable and owners remove need Novamira Pro with an active license. status, owners add and disable are part of Novamira and always work, so you can check or turn off Ghost Mode even when the page is not reachable.
If you lose access
If nobody on the list can reach the Ghost Mode page and WP-CLI is not available, add this line to the site’s wp-config.php file:
define( 'NOVAMIRA_GHOST_MODE_BYPASS', true );
Every administrator sees Novamira again, and a notice reminds them that the bypass is active. The Ghost Mode settings are not changed: from the Ghost Mode page you can fix the list or turn Ghost Mode off, then remove the line from wp-config.php to go back to the saved settings.
Uninstalling
Ghost Mode settings are kept when Novamira is deleted. To delete them as well, click Deactivate next to Novamira in the Plugins screen and, on the Before deactivating Novamira page, tick When Novamira is deleted, remove Ghost Mode settings. The settings are removed when you then delete the plugin.
