Connect ChatGPT to Novamira
ChatGPT connects to your WordPress site through Novamira’s MCP endpoint, using ChatGPT’s developer-mode custom connectors and an OAuth sign-in from your own WordPress login. Support was introduced in Novamira 1.9.2.
Requirements
- Novamira 1.9.2 or later active on the site, with AI abilities enabled.
- The site on HTTPS (OAuth requires it).
- An administrator account on the site.
- A ChatGPT plan that includes developer mode for custom connectors. Developer mode is enabled from ChatGPT’s connector settings; if the option is not there, your plan does not include it.
Set up the connection
Step 1: enable developer mode in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open the settings area for connectors and turn on developer mode (listed under the advanced options). This unlocks custom MCP connectors.
Step 2: add the connector
Create a new custom connector, give it a name you will recognize, with “Novamira” in it, and point it at your site’s OAuth server URL:
https://your-site.com/wp-json/mcp/novamira-oauth
The Novamira > Configuration page in your WordPress admin shows this URL with your real site address already filled in: choose ChatGPT there and copy it ready to paste.
Step 3: sign in from WordPress
Save the connector and start the sign-in: a browser window opens on your site, where you approve the connection from your own WordPress login. No password is generated, copied or pasted.
Approve tools and permissions
In a conversation, enable the connector among the available tools, then ask ChatGPT something that touches the site, for example to list recent posts. ChatGPT shows which Novamira tool it wants to call and asks for your confirmation before acting; actions that change the site always go through that confirmation. You can review or revoke the authorization at any time from Novamira > Manage Connections in the WordPress admin, and revoking takes effect immediately.
Troubleshooting
The custom connector option is missing. Developer mode is not enabled, or your ChatGPT plan does not include it. Enable it in the connector settings first.
The sign-in page never opens, or the connection times out. Some hosts filter traffic from cloud AI providers. See Connecting Your AI Client for what to do when your host or a firewall blocks the connection.
The site runs on plain HTTP. OAuth requires HTTPS; move the site to HTTPS first.
ChatGPT connects but a tool call is refused. Check which features are enabled under Novamira > Features, and whether Read Mode is active on the site: with Read Mode on, everything that changes content, files and settings is not offered, and refused if something calls it anyway.
Next steps
Ask ChatGPT to look around the site and report what it finds: theme, builder, plugins, content structure. The tools page lists every ability a connected client can call, and Connecting Your AI Client covers the other supported clients and connection routes.
